“I love commuting between languages just like I love commuting between cultures and cities

Elif Safak

I am a daughter, a sister, a mother, a wife, a cisgender woman, an immigrant… I was born and raised in Israel and came to the US as an adult to attend graduate school. I have lived and worked in South East Asia, and Europe. My journey has given me a rich experience of working with diverse people and a deeper understanding of cross-cultural issues.

I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Drama Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies and was licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 1997. I am a lifelong learner and a long-time practitioner of mindfulness meditation. I am passionate about the clinical applications of mindfulness and its contributions to individual and organizational well-being. I am particularly drawn to Mindful Self-Compassion practices as paths toward self-acceptance and open-hearted connection with others. While my heart is broken by climate change, social injustices, human rights violations, trauma, and acts of violence, I remain inspired by the resiliency and creativity all around me.

In my spare time I enjoy yoga, meditation, reading, paddle boarding, savoring time with family, friends and my affectionate cat. I am very fortunate to live in a beautiful place where I can immerse myself in nature and restore my heart and soul through daily walks.

I look forward to working with you.
